The development of the standard was spearheaded by the Council on Economic Priorities Accreditation Agency (CEPAA), an affiliate of CEP, with the involvement of such organizations as Amnesty International, The National Child Labor Committee, Avon Products, Reebok, International Textile Workers, and others.
Compliance with SA8000 standards is verified through third-party audits conducted by individuals and firms accredited by CEPAA. Several major auditing firms have passed the accreditation process.
