We were met at the airport by a CFBT education project manager and taken to a spacious apartment, where we were given a complimentary hire car, maps and directions, some cash and other sundry items to get us started in this new and strange land.
CFBT had thought of everything and helped us, along with the other 35 teachers and their families, to acclimatise, learn about the country, culture, customs and education system.
I needn't have worried - there was plenty of help from my Bruneian and CFBT colleagues to get me on my way.
I love the fact that we CFBT teachers in Brunei are teaching in the government school system, in a fully inclusive learning environment, with a ministry of education committed to educational excellence with the nation's children at its heart.
CFBT recruit, support and manage more than 250 English teachers, mostly from the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, in primary and secondary schools and pre-university colleges.
