But if the FCC decides that imposing a new digital TV standard would be in the public interest, CICATS has offered a proposal that is technologically superior to the Grand Alliance's, would bring quality digital television to American consumers faster, and would save consumers $44 billion over the next seven years.
In comments filed with the FCC Thursday, the CICATS Coalition warned that under the proposed Grand Alliance standard "consumers would be denied the opportunity to weigh the quality of HDTV against its immense costs -- (TV manufacturers) would make that decision for them.
