Two pieces of research--looking at whether children read enough for pleasure and also whether teachers are as knowledgeable as they might be about children's literature--have produced short summaries: The Teachers as Readers: Building Communities of Readers 2007 -2008 (Executive Summary, UKLA, 2008), and The Power of Reading: Enjoyment and Creativity for Children and Teachers: Raising Achievement in Literacy (Project Research Summary 2005--09, CLPE, 2009).
There are one or two exceptions, of course, including Tony Mitton whose Wayland the Smith won last year's CLPE award, and who should have made it to Daniel Hahn's The Oxford Companion to Children's Literature.
As with all publications from CLPE, this text is drawn from action research by practising teachers.
Although June and July does feel like 'awards season' with Carnegie, Greenaway, Branford Boase, UKLA and CLPE Poetry Prize all announcing, don't forget that the Autumn has its own very special awards--the SLA Information Book Awards.
