With the growing demand for educating a large number of new entrants to the coatings industry in China, CNCIA and BCF have signed a long-term cooperation agreement to launch the Coatings Training Institute in China.
"I am proud and honored that CNCIA will be using our British training program as the basis of the new Coatings Training Institute in China, and I will ensure that we give support to CNCIA, particularly in the first few weeks and months, to ensure a smooth start to the project," BCF CEO Tom Bowtell said.
Speakers from China, including Lianying Sun, president of CNCIA; Hongmei Yang from Huayi Fine Chemicals; and Jie Hong of SKUSHU Paint, provided insight on the many partnerships and joint venture arrangements that have benefited the industry serving the expanding Chinese markets for industrial, decorative, and wood coatings.
CNCIA's symposium was supported by other associations in the International Paint and Printing Ink Council (IPPIC) who provided technical information and presentations.
CNCIA presentations, including those by CNCIA's president Sun Lianying and CNCIA secretary general Yang Yuande, showcased the efforts that the coatings industry has made in developing more sustainable coatings.
CNCIA is currently in a dialogue with the government trying to classify different products with different VOC limits, but there has been no final decision yet.
Together with the Chinese Ministry of Environment, universities, and some academic institutes, CNCIA is also investigating VOC emissions from coatings for automobiles, ship buildings, containers, furniture, industrial equipment, coil, bridges, etc.
Commenting on the awards, Sun Lianying, chairman of the CNCIA said, "Axalta has been a pioneer in the global coatings industry for more nearly 150 years.

A co-founder of IPPIC, ACA continues to serve as its Secretariat, supporting the membership, which includes the Brazilian Paint Manufacturers Association (ABRAFATI); Mexican Paint and Printing Ink Manufacturers Association (ANAFAPYT); Australian Paint Manufacturers' Federation (APMF); European Council of the Paint, Printing Ink and Artists' Colours Industry (CEPE); China National Coatings Industry Association (CNCIA); Canadian Paint and Coatings Association (CPCA); French Paints, Printing Inks, Artist Colours and Adhesives Association (FIPEC); Japan Paint Manufacturers Association (JPMA); German Paint Industry Association (VdL); and the British Coatings Federation (BCF).
The AFWG is working closely with China National Coatings Industry Association (CNCIA) by providing antifouling expertise in discussions with the Chinese Environmental Ministry.
