In its first two years, the Woods Hole COHH
launched several investigations on algae, bacteria, viruses, and other organisms that threaten to compromise the safety of our seafood supply and the commercial and recreational use of coastal waters.
Research issues and EJ concerns; the initiatives and prevention programs university received an NIEHS addressing effects of volcanic air center grant for a new COHH
. pollution on respiratory health of Big Islanders are being pursued.
COHH projects will concentrate on using genomic and proteomic approaches to determine the pathogenicity and biology of these organisms and to discover new and better means of detecting them in water and shellfish.
They hope to use this earlier research to support the COHH program and create a more complete base of knowledge of the still largely unstudied realm where human health and marine life intermingle.
