Echoing the call for a restructuring of the national broadcasting industry, CQTV took over the administration of CQTV-2 and Chongqing Education TV in 2003 and revoked their registration as independent TV channels.
CQTV became a provincial TV station in 1998, and since then it joined the national competition for advertising profit.
As a regional broadcaster, most of CQTV's advertising revenue comes from its local market, the city of Chongqing.
Obviously, in the context of increasing competition and diminishing viewership, the survival of CQTV is at stake.
Currently, the company has 200 employees and produces films for CCTV and CQTV and also undertakes outsource projects with an annual production capability of 4,000 minutes.
Therefore, much of this production only supplies various CQTV channels.
