The Central Valley Joint Venture (CVJV), a partnership of agencies and nongovernmental organizations that implements bird conservation within the Central Valley, established conservation objectives in 2006 for 7 waterbird focal species that breed within the Central Valley; we recorded 6 out of 7 of these species (CVJV 2006), 3 of which were confirmed breeding.
At riparian restoration sites on private lands at Central Valley and North Coast sites combined, we found 143 species, including 22 special status species and 5 out of the 7 CVJV riparian focal species (CVJV 2006).
