The three actions have been endorsed by 41 major national organizations, including the Campaign for Mental Health Reform
; National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors; National Association of State Alcohol/Drug Abuse Directors; NAADAC, The Association for Addiction Professionals; National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare; National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers; and Faces and Voices of Recovery, among others.
This work led me to arrange a congressional briefing with the Campaign for Mental Health Reform
to promote the need for early intervention for children and adolescents with mental health problems.
In 2003, President Bush's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health report called for "fundamental transformation of the nation's approach to mental health care." However, the Campaign for Mental Health Reform
noted in its executive summary that "there has been little progress in realizing the commission's goals or implementing its recommendations."
He noted that four mental health organizations recently formed the Campaign for Mental Health Reform
to respond to the report.
The Campaign for Mental Health Reform
, a coalition representing the American Psychiatric Association and other mental health organizations, called the budget "incredibly disappointing."
