The project is designed to show how health plans can partner with PCORI Clinical Data Research Networks
to capture de-identified data, especially from claims and membership records.
There are 13 multisite Clinical Data Research Networks
(CDRNs) comprised of hospitals, integrated delivery systems and large clinics with sophisticated EHRs, established patient databases, and the data reporting capabilities necessary for research.
PCORI began development of PCORnet with an initial investment of $93.5 million to support the development and expansion of 29 individual networks, a mix of health system-based Clinical Data Research Networks
(CDRNs) and patient-organized Patient-Powered Research Networks (PPRNs), over an 18-month first phase that concludes in September 2015.
