The peak at 670 hPa over land (greenish shading, Figure 3(a)) represents the cloud top pressure over the Kitakami basin, located between the Kitakami and Ou Mountains.
At this time, the cloud top pressure was between 600 and 900 hPa (Figure 7).
The cloud top pressure ranged from 900 to 700 hPa (13 km), with variations over both land and ocean of approximately 100 hPa.
The present study investigated the land-ocean contrast in Yamase cloud properties, such as cloud top pressure, re, r, and cloud water paths, during the summer of 2003, using satellite observational data.
The lower-and upper-level clouds were defined by the cloud top pressure to be above and below 600 hPa, respectively (an altitude of approximately 4 km).
In the present study, the upper and lower clouds were defined as clouds with cloud top pressures above and below 600 hPa (approximately 4 km altitude), respectively.
