The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the administration of an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, quinapril 20 mg/day, for two years on DCAN and DPN in patients with type 1 and 2 DM.

Conventional echocardiography measures of left ventricular diastolic function showed higher A values (0.88 [+ or -] 0.16 cm/s in DCAN, 0.77 [+ or -] 0.20 cm/s in PCAN, and 0.78 [+ or -] 0.20 cm/s in NCAN, P < 0.001) and lower E/A ratios (0.83 [+ or -] 0.23, 0.99 [+ or -] 0.32,and 1.01 [+ or -] 0.36,P < 0.001) in patients with DCAN compared with those with PCAN and NCAN.
