As a result, DCRP unanimously approved awarding of electricity tenders to SMEs, provided that they are technically qualified and are able to carry out the projects awarded to them without delay, in addition to awarding them 10 per cent of the total electricity projects implemented by big companies.
DCRP called for emphasizing the importance of electric power generation from renewable sources and utilization of its available resources, a matter which represents a strategic goal for the Sultanate, with the need to develop legislations, regulations and incentives to support this trend.
He pointed out said DCRP was also considering the mechanism of work development in the electricity sector, identifying laws and standards applicable in registration of the companies as well as informing its suppliers of the devices and equipment that are used and approved in the electricity distribution companies.
He added that DCRP will discuss a mechanism to develop work in the electricity sector, how to assign tenders for the 47 small and medium companies that are capable technically in the implementation of projects and have been approved by DCRP, and the introduction of the laws and standards applied in the registering of companies operating in the sector, in addition to informing suppliers of equipment used and approved in the electricity distribution companies.
Hamad bin Salim al- Maghdari, CEO of Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAEC), and Chairman of Distribution Code Review Panel (DCRP) announced in a press conference held at the Holiday Inn Muscat Hotel today that DCRP will organize the second annual forum for companies operating in the electricity sector of contractors and suppliers, under the theme (Sustainability of Performance: Quality and Standards) on the ninth of March at the Inter-Continental Muscat Hotel.
