In 1992, Liang and Pardee [6] developed a new PCR-based technique called Differential Display (DDRTPCR), which was useful for comparing and identifying changes in gene expression at the mRNA level among different eukaryotic cell samples.
DDRTPCR proved to be a fast approach to screen candidate genes from massive amounts of RNA-seq data and is a step forward towards better use of the available genetic resources generated by NGS technologies.
