A new board of directors for the Chicago-based newspaper publisher has been proposed by shareholder Davidson Kempner Capital Management LLC and while the company does plan to reconstitute its board in January, it opposes the DKCM move.
DKCM said that the move by K Capital means that 27 percent of Sun-Times Media's shareholders have voted in favor of the dissident's proposal, which would install a new board that would include Jeremy Halbreich, a former long-time Dallas Morning News executive who most recently ran a group of smaller dailies and weeklies, Robert Schmitz, a turn-around executive with media experience, and Michael Katzenstein, head of a "restructuring advisory firm" who is the chairman of cable company RCN.
