It mainly includes four parts, from interprediction, intraprediction, and entropy encoding to deblocking filter. In this paper, we choose x264 program as reference code to analyze the feature of H.264 encoder.
Besides the compute intensive tools, there are also control intensive components in the H.264/AVC, such as CAVLC and deblocking filter. The execution time for these two parts takes about 20% of the total time.

The coding performance is measured by comparing PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio) with- and without deblocking filter. Table-1 shows the objective comparison of deblocking filter by computing luminance PSNR at different bit rate for various 1080p sequences.
