In her welcome address, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research
, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships (RISP), University of Ibadan, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, said the university was in sync with the geo-hackathon initiative because of its intent to promote research, innovation and develop environmental and industry viable solutions for sustainable development.

and innovation, said: "This state of the art laboratory will provide outstanding facilities to support research and teaching and will contribute to the development of new technologies in the region." It would complement work in renewable energy already under way in the university's School of the Built Environment.
