However, other networks also exist, some predating the EU and extending beyond its borders: these include the European region of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) and social initiatives supported by the Council of Europe, whose 47 member countries form the constituency of the European Association of Schools of Social Work (EASSW).
After 1989 social work education resumed in the former USSR countries, sometimes assisted by funding and advice from the EUROPEAN UNION, Council of Europe, International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) and EASSW.
