The compromise also sets out conditions for the use of EMFF funds forengine renewal(Article 39), which should provide for safer engines that consume less energy and cause less pollution: the funds will suport (co-finance) the withdrawal, replacement and modernisation of boatsafor small-scale coastal fishing; for boats up to 12 metres provided that the newaengine has the same power or less than the old one; for vessels up to 18 metres provided that the new engine's power output inathe vessel group is at least 20% less than that of the engine it replaces; andafor vessels up to 24 metres provided that the new engine's power output inathe vessel group is at least 30% less than that of the engine it replaces (Article 13).
