In the year since the team was set up they've been presented with a silver eco award, the second of the three awards in the scheme run by environmental charity

The awards are part of Eco-Schools, a programme run by environmental charity

Encams, which runs the awards, said the state of the country's beaches had improved dramatically since Britain entered the awards scheme in 1987, when just a dozen passed.

Encams said that, by visiting Blue Flag beaches, holidaymakers would help build on the renaissance of Britain's coastline and protect local jobs.
The call comes as 120 beaches were awarded Blue Flags by environmental charity
Encams for clean sands, pollution-free water, health and safety provision and disabled access.
It's backed by the Chewing Gum Action Group which was created in October last year, and involves bodies such as gum manufacturers - including the biggest producer, Wrigleys - local councils, government departments and
ENCAMS, formerly the Keep Britain Tidy campaign.
