Jointly published by the BNF and the academic firm Librairie Droz under the auspices of the Ecole pratique des hautes etudes (EPHE) with support from the Institut de recherche sur le patrimoine musical en France of the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), the Massip festschrift, issued in an unassuming but expertly prepared paperback volume, physically exudes its academic cachet, with a spacious, attractive mis-en-page incorporating an abundance of finely wrought music examples and transcriptions, well-crafted tables, many embedded and full-page facsimile reproductions from the sources (alas sometimes overly reduced to fit into the page block's small size), and a suite of gorgeous color reproductions at the end that lend a special luster to this celebratory book.
