ESDB v2.0: The European Soil Database distribution version 2.0.
Since the ESDB system is designed to cater for acute medical and neurology units, where routine data collection is more difficult, the basic Barthel index has been adopted as the standard, although extended forms such as the Functional Independence Measure can be used if necessary.
For these and other reasons, the Barthel index has clearly become part of the 'common clinical language' of stroke care and it has therefore been adopted by consensus as the standard measure of disability for the ESDB.
