Since the lower proliferative rate of ESSCs is implicated in their resistance to chemotherapy, we hypothesized that this characteristic might also be associated with a lower level of IGF-1R expression, and therefore, a lower level of dependence on the activity of this pathway.
Additionally, we characterized the expression and activation of the IGF-1R signaling pathway in Ewing sarcoma stem-like cells (ESSCs), a population of tumor cells that are relatively resistant to chemotherapy [19, 20], in order to investigate a potential reservoir for resistance to anti-IGF-1R therapy.
