French MEPs Marie-Christine Vergiat (EUL-NGL), Helene Flautre (Greens-EFA) and Sylvie Guillaume (S&D) argued that these post-Tunisian revolution migrants should be given residence permits, which they say is possible under Directive 2001/55/EC on minimum standards for giving temporary protection in the event of a mass influx of displaced persons.
