The solid phase microextraction-based method provided better sensitivity for ethylene glycol dinitrate (EGDN), resulted in chromatograms with lower, less complex background signals when compared to acetone extractions, and does not rely on the use of organic solvents.
These included ethylene glycol dinitrate (EGDN), trinitroglycerin (NG), 2,4-dinitrotoluene (DNT), 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT), pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), hexahydro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX), methyl-2,4,6-trinitrophenyl-nitramine (tetryl), and 1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazacyclooctane (HMX).
When the solid phase microextraction fiber/extract was shaken for ten minutes, peak areas for ethylene glycol dinitrate and NG were approximately 75 percent of the peak areas for the five-minute stirred extractions.
