The six unions - the Federation Nationale des Syndicats d'Exploitants Agricoles (FNSEA), the Federation Nationale Bovine (FNB) which represents cattle farmers, the young farmers' union Jeunes Agriculteurs (JA): the national dairy federation (Federation Nationale des Producteurs de Lait - FNPL), the meat wholesalers' union Federation Nationale de l'Industrie et des Commerces en Gros des Viandes, and the meat and livestock co-operatives' group Federation Nationale de la Cooperation Betail et Viande (FNCBV) - signed their agreement on October 24, 2001, with the connivance and support of the then Minister of Agriculture, Jean Glavany.
Besides the FNSEA, the beef producers' federation and the national dairy federation were each fined Euro 1.44 million, with smaller amounts reserved for the two slaughterers' organisations (Euro 720,000 for the wholesalers and 480,000 for the FNCBV) and the young farmers' union (Euro 600,000).
