A partnership agreement to develop emergency mobile satellite communications solutions has been signed by France Telecom Mobile Satellite Communications (FTMSC), a provider of mobile voice and data communications solutions via satellite, and Telecoms Sans Frontieres (TSF), an emergency telecomms company.
FTMSC provides solutions for e-mail, Internet and video conferencing around the world, especially in areas with limited GSM and terrestrial telecomms infrastructure.
TSF, which deploys telecomms centres within 24 hours of a major incident, will use FTMSC's satellite solutions to enable local populations to locate each other, communicate with family and friends and boost morale.
FTMSC markets and distributes communications solutions for customers in areas where access to terrestrial telecomms infrastructure is limited.
FTMSC holds long-term partnerships with mobile satellite communications operators such as Inmarsat, Thuraya and Iridium.
The agreement is expected to enable FTMSC, which has an overall market share of around 20%, to consolidate its position in the international mobile satellite communications market.
