The addition of docetaxel to ADT improved OS (median 81 versus 71 months, HR=0.78, 95% CI=0.66-0.93) and failure-free survival (median 37 versus 20 months, HR=0.61, 95% CI=0.53-0.70) compared to ADT alone.
The study, which was published in European Urology, followed 625 medium to high risk nonmetastatic prostate cancer patients in the UK over a period of five years and found that the failure-free survival rate with HIFU can be equivalent to that of surgery but with fewer side effects.
Secondary outcomes analyzed included locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRFS), distant failure-free survival (DFFS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and event-free survival (EFS).
The failure-free survival (FFS) was significantly improved in the CCRT arm as compared to RT arm (At 3years 72% versus 62%; p=0.027).
Biochemical failure-free survival (BCFFS) value at 3 years was also higher in the RT group when compared to NLT group (52% and 16%, resp.) [16] (Table 8).
According to another study conducted at National Taiwan University Hospital for newly-diagnosed cases of childhood ALL, univariate analysis of failure-free survival showed six variables with significant detrimental effects on eventual outcome, including high TLC (greater than 50,000/cm3).30
The failure-free survival was 55% in infants, 83% in children aged 1-9 years and 68% in patients over 10 years.
Our local failure-free survival at 5 years was 60.7%.
Failure-free survival (FFS) was calculated from initial diagnosis to disease- or treatment-related death, failure to attain CR at the end of therapy, disease progression, relapse, whichever came first, or last visit.
They also had a significantly longer failure-free survival duration, with a hazard ratio of 0.74.
Treatment failure-free survival was calculated from surgery to any of the composite endpoint events.
