What has been termed "false memory syndrome" (and which might more accurately be called something like "possibly improperly enhanced memory syndrome") appears to be a major semantic distortion in America today.
While this takes a variety of forms, its most virulent, and most publicized, form, is in the conflict between women who have remembered past abuse (especially sexual abuse) and the proponents of the so-called False Memory Syndrome.
