The wreck was located by the underwater research team of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society (
GLSHS), using a system combining historical research, mapping, and side-scan sonar searching.

Inside, the ground level of the red-brick structure now features exhibits honoring the history of the Weather Bureau as well as Shipwreck Society exhibits and a museum store, while the second floor houses GLSHS offices.
