The grant has been made by the BFI through its new Neighbourhood Cinema Equipment Fund and will enable GMDT to buy its own projector, a large screen, Blu-Ray player and a sound system.
It was at the time of the unveiling of the bust on the island that GMDT launched its own fundraising drive to pay for a replica in Morpeth.
Today the alleyways remain as a testament to Morpeth's past, and the project to install the name signs was jointly funded by the Heritage Lottery and GMDT, through the Castles, Woods and Water initiative.
Over the next few years the GMDT will invest about PS120,000 in improvements to overgrown and waterlogged footpaths, new amenities such as seats and benches, illustrative signs and interpretation panels and a woodland management and conservation programme drawn up by retired Newcastle University professor, and Morpeth resident, Alan Davison.
Three partners - the town council, chamber of trade and Greater Morpeth Development Trust (GMDT) - form the core of the team, along with Dransfield Properties, the developer of the town's PS35m Sanderson Arcade shopping centre.
