Earlier on October 25, JVP-led Government Nursing Officers' Association (GNOA) held a token strike launched against the new Nursing Constitution, which more or less was reported as being unsuccessful.
GNOA claims that the original Nurses Constitution, approved back in 1984 by the then Cabinet of Ministers, has not been properly implemented to date by the Ministry.
GNOA is demanding that health authorities re-solve several problems affecting their profession including the immediate halt of the new Nursing Constitution, five-day work week for nurses, and that Grade One promotions be granted after 12 years of supplementary service.
