In particular, concentration of several metals decreased from December to May in the LR region, but increased during the same period in the GRTM region.
Mean Cd concentrations measured in kidney, liver, and muscle of caribou from the GRTM region were lower than those reported a few years earlier in the same region (liver: 1.2--2.9 [micro]g*[g.sup.-1]; kidney: 11.7-40.7 [micro]g*[g.sup.-1]; muscle: 0--0.20 [micro]g*[g.sup.-1]; Crete et al., 1989).
Levels found in the GRTM regions must therefore have decreased to an even greater extent.
Higher levels of [Cs.sup.137] in lichens have been documented in the middle-eastern part of northern Quebec, a region associated with caribou from the GRTM region (Crete et al., 1992).
However, current levels in muscle are lower than those found in caribou from the GRTM region in 1986 and 1988 (Crete et al., 1990, 1993).
