Until the introduction of Euro 5 legislation, the compliance of the pollutants emitted by GTDi
engines had been achieved using three-way catalyst (TWC) systems, but the increase in particle emissions has led to the inclusion of a PN emissions limit in the Euro 6 legislation.
Using the methodologies described in the previous section both methods were used to map a common set of speed load points on a GTDI
engine for which calibration tables generated using the existing sweep based methods are available.
Though smaller than its predecessor, the new inline-four 1.5-liter EcoBoost GTDI
produces more power, with 180 PS at 6,000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque from 1,600 - 5,000 rpm.
There is also the T4 petrol, a 1.6-litre GTDi
engine with 180 horsepower and maximum torque of 270 Nm, including 30 Nm over-boost.
The T3 entry-level unit is a 150bhp 1.6 GTDi
unit, offered with a six-speed manual gearbox.
The mid-range offer includes two versions of a 1.6-litre GTDi
engine - the T4 pumping out 180bhp and the 150bhp T3 that returns 48.7mpg, with CO2 emissions set at 134g/km.
Volvo S60 - CO2: 119g/km The new S60 will come with a four-cylinder 1.6-litre petrol unit using high-efficiency GTDi
technology, producing 180bhp.
There are two ways to use EcoBoost technology--also known as GTDI
(gasoline turbo direct injection): as a performance package, much like Cadillac has on its (non-turbocharged) DI in the CTS, or the Ford way.
These were later extended by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) into what became known as the GTDI
(General-purpose Trade Data Interchange standards), and were gradually accepted by some 2,000 British exporting organizations.
