By the time of the 1995 Beijing conference the World Women Veterinarians' Association will have produced five guidebooks -- "Gender, Science and Technology for Sustainable and Equitable Development" (a two-volume overview of the issues, networks and initiatives); "Indigenous and Local Community Knowledge in Animal Health and Production Systems: Gender Perspectives"; "Gender and Micro-Enterprise" (on "the invisible, informal economics of women," funded by the United Nations Environment Program); "Gender, Health and the Environment," funded by the World Health Organization; and "Women and Youth in Agriculture," funded by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture.
One recommendation of the Working Group is that the UN should appoint an advisory board of women in gender, science and technology, to inject gender perspectives into all of the workings of the commission on science and technology.
We hope that the arrival of our report on gender, science and technology, and of the WWVA guidebooks, will bring gender and science into that reform package."
