The Gift of Life Donor Program, formerly known as the Delaware Valley Transplant Program, reports it broke its own record for organ donations in the US in one month in April when 39 people donated organs that resulted in 121 organ transplants.
"This is has been touted as money for buying organs and that is absolutely untrue," Howard Nathan, executive director of the Gift of Life Donor Program (formerly the Delaware Valley Transplant Program) in Philadelphia, told Transplant News.
The organ procurement organization that serves the eastern half of Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and State of Delaware will now be known as the Gift of Life Donor Program. Howard Nathan, president and CEO said the name was changed to make area residents better aware of the local organization that is responsible for organ and tissue donation.
