Section 2 of this paper describes the linearity analysis of a Gilbert-cell mixer as well as the proposed mixer.
The Gilbert-cell mixer for the modern receiver design is illustrated in Figure 1 [13].
A 5.7 GHz 0.25 [micro]m CMOS RF front-end, including a CMOS differential LNA and a CMOS Gilbert-cell mixer, for an 802.11a WLAN receiver is presented.
(1) This article presents a 5.7 GHz differential CMOS LNA and a Gilbert-cell mixer for 802.11a WLAN applications, as shown in Figure 1.
Usually, the active mixer is a Gilbert-cell mixer or a single-balanced mixer.
In the hands of an IC designer, a simple design like a Gilbert-cell mixer is fruitful and multiplies to include not only the seven transistors comprising the Gilbert cell but also a limiting amplifier to amplify the LO drive, a bandgap reference in the bias circuit and a wideband output amplifier.
The two ICs use the same modified Gilbert-cell mixer and feature a choice of wide dynamic range IFs.
