Instead the Teaching Agency, which will replace the
GTCE, will hear only the most serious misconduct cases that could lead to teachers being struck off.
Teaching remains predominantly female - with 75% being women teachers - according to the
GTCE's 2011 Annual Digest of Statistics.
The deputy head received a reprimand from the
GTCE which will remain on her record for two years but does not stop her from teaching.
A spokeswoman for the
GTCE said: ``The committee decided to issue Mr Parkinson with a conditional registration order to last for five years.
Education Secretary Michael Gove announced plans to abolish the
GTCE two years ago in a cull of Labour-led quangos.
"Those who crowed over the abolition of the
GTCE are now deeply concerned, as they realise that this was part and parcel of the English agenda to de-professionalise teachers.
Axed by the Westminster coalition, Education Secretary Michael Gove said he was "deeply sceptical" of the
GTCE's purpose, believing it "does little to raise teaching standards or professionalism".
"However, just because Michael Gove has decided to abolish the
GTCE does not necessarily mean what is best for England is best for Wales.
