Australia announced its choice of the P-8 in 2007 and plans to buy eight of the Spiral One/Increment Two version with Haawc
, but due to other commitments cannot plan on an initial operational capability before 20172020.
Under the Naval Air Systems Command contract, Boeing will integrate the High-Altitude Antisubmarine Weapon Capability (HAAWC
) and a Link 16 data link capability for network-enable weapons into the P-8A.
Future P-8A stores may include the Boeing MECC (Magnetic Eagle Compressed Carriage) sensor drone and the Mk 54 torpedo with the Haawc
(High Altitude ASW Weapon Capability) wing, datalink and GPS/INS guidance and control kit.
