After hearing the kind words about the town and the university from people who live outside our area, it is important to recognise that HCMF has cornered a lucrative part of this very niche market and that, if we can, the people of Huddersfield and other parts of Kirklees should go along to support the events.
The HCMF is positively adding to the cultural milieu.
"At the heart of HCMF is a continuing determination to be forward-facing in everything that we do: striving to expand our audiences' horizons by exploring new areas of creativity; providing life-changing inspiration and opportunities through our learning and participation programme; and working to build strong partnerships, not only with our funders and supporters, but also through world-wide artistic collaborations and co-commissions with artists, composers and other festivals."
That's not to mention being a pioneer of the British Asian underground scene, his one-man band Shrilektric and workshops at Huddersfield's world-renowned HCMF festival.
Artistic director Graham McKenzie said: "The awards are a real vote of confidence in the ongoing development of HCMF as a forward-looking arts organisation, as well as recognising its importance in the national and international landscape of contemporary and experimental music."
