In 2004, Hino opened its first American assembly plant at Long Beach, Calif.
Hino, which is 51 percent owned by Toyota, also unveiled its lofty goal to sell 10,000 trucks in the U.S.
Hino Chairman Tadaaki Jagawa recently told The Wall Street Journal that his company will open medium-duty truck plants in Arkansas and Ontario, Canada, in 2007.
Hino and Arkansas economic development officials didn't consider Jagawa's comments to be official and wouldn't comment or confirm that a plant is coming to Marion, the site where Hino broke ground last year on a $160 million parts plant.
If an assembly plant is built in Marion, the number of people hired would depend on how many trucks Hino is able to sell, Bradford said.
