The HJEC disqualified, two days ago, Maj.-Gen Omar Suleiman - former intelligence chief, Khairat Al-Shater - deputy mentor of the Muslim Brotherhood group, Hazem Salah Abu Ismail - the Salafi candidate, Ayman Nour - of the New Ghad Party, Mortadha Manour, Ibrahim Al-Gharib, Ahmad Awadh, Mamdouh Qotb, Hosam Khairat and Ashraf Barouma.
The HJEC meeting was held amidst tight security measures in anticipation of any act by the supporters of the candidates.
Under the election law and the executive statutes, the HJEC will receive appeals against the qualification of any hopeful soon after announcing the candidates' name list on the official gazette tomorrow Monday and for the following two days, head of the commission Justice Farouq Sultan told reporters here.
"A ruling to disqualify a candidate is scheduled to be issued within the following 48 hours (Thursday and Friday) and then the concerned candidate will have a final chance to appeal to the HJEC against the verdict disqualifying them on Saturday and Sunday; a final decision in this regard is due on Monday (April 16)," Justice Sultan explained.
