In a crosslinguistic study on ASL, Hong Kong Sign Language (HKSL) and Swiss German Sign Language (Deutsch-Schweizer Gebardensprache, DSGS), Eccarius and Brentari (2007) compared two-handed type 3 (33) classifier constructions (CCs) to two-handed type 3 lexical items (simple signs where handshape and movement do not carry morphological information) in terms of (i) complexity of phonological features and (ii) prosodic domain.
