HQSS is a next-generation tactical shelter system that will be used by Canada to support a number of humanitarian and peacekeeping efforts, both here in Canada and around the world.
In addition to the Canadian program, which must be delivered by 2021, a number of other countries are evaluating the Weatherhaven's HQSS design concept for their future tactical shelter needs.
If HDT is awarded the HQSS
contract, the shelters will be assembled at the company's facility in Belleville, Ontario, which already manufactures the same products required for HQSS
The HQSS contract calls for DND (Department of National Defence) to purchase 1,435 tactical, tent-based shelter systems and gives it an option to buy an additional 338.
The HQSS contract is projected to create nearly 150 jobs, spread across the country.
As part of the HQSS program the Department of National Defence will purchase 1,435 tactical tent-based shelter systems with an option of an additional 338 shelters.
"Weatherhaven is honoured to have been selected for this opportunity to deliver a leading edge Canadian-made design for Canada's Armed Forces in its HQSS program", said Ray Castelli, CEO of Weatherhaven, "This design combines Weatherhaven's trademark strength and durability in extreme conditions, together with a new rapid-erect and mobility element, that makes the HQSS shelter truly a next-generation solution."
