Hemlo gold mines in the region is based on where miners live.
The mine's owner,
Hemlo Gold Mines Ltd., is saving time and money by utilizing programmable logic controls (PLC) technology to monitor many of the mine's internal systems.
Hemlo Gold Mines agreed last month to exchange about $80 million in shares and $10 million in royalties for all of the gold assets of its controlling shareholder, Noranda Inc.
He is president of Noranda Mines Ltd., a company he joined in 1953, as well as chairman of
Hemlo Gold Mines Inc., Kerr Addison Mines Ltd.
The
Hemlo gold mines east of Thunder Bay have the lion's share, but Red Lake district mines have always been constant producers.
The property is currently owned by
Hemlo Gold Mines Inc., which is 50.8-per-cent owned by Noranda Inc.
According to Frank Grebenc, mine manager of
Hemlo Gold Mines Inc., the Golden Giant Mine is producing an average of 2,800 tons of ore per day grading at 12.5 grams per ton.
