McDermott believes a home exercise program makes the most sense for PAD patients after their CMS benefit for a supervised clinic-based program has run out, or for patients - and there are a great many - who either can't or don't want to participate in a supervised program.
The aims of this study were to: 1) determine the feasibility of delivering two different structured physical exercise interventions in MS patients [(i) a combined face-to-face high-intensity interval training (HIIT) plus home exercise program and (ii) a home-based exercise program], and 2) assess the effects of these interventions on the clinical evolution, psychological wellbeing, quality of life, fatigue, cardiorespiratory fitness, strength and balance in MS patients.
The home exercise program consisted of a progression of exercises in four phases, which each lasted for about 1 month (Table 2).

Phone calls were also to be utilized throughout the intervention (every two weeks) to monitor adherence to the home exercise program.

The randomized-controlled trial will test the individual and the combined benefit of 2000 IU vitamin D/day, 1 g of omega-3 fatty acids/day and a simple home exercise program in an efficient factorial trial design.
