"We found that participants who received IBMT training also experienced a significant decrease in their craving for cigarettes," Yi-Yuan Tang, a co-author and director of Texas Tech's Neuroimaging Institute, said.
"The pathway that has the largest change due to IBMT is one that previously was shown to relate to individual differences in the person's ability to regulate conflict," said US psychologist Prof Michael Posner, who co-led the research.
IBMT has been found to improve emotional and cognitive performance, as well as social behavior, says lead author Yi-Yuan Tang, a professor in the Institute of Neuroinformatics and Laboratory for Body and Mind at Dalian University of Technology in China.
At the beginning of 2014, the IBMT teamed up with 26 industry and research partners to launch a project aimed at establishing a central biobank--the European Bank for induced pluripotent Stem Cells (EBiSC)--to generate iPS cells from patients with specific diseases or genetic mutations (http://ebisc.org/).
