The BMC2 system subsequently tasked the Harris-developed IFICS Data Terminal hardware to transmit these critical targeting updates to the Interceptor as it approached the ballistic target.
Missile Defense Division, Harris is designing, developing and testing the prototype IFICS Data Terminal being installed at the Ronald Reagan Test Site in the Marshall Islands and at Harris facilities in Palm Bay, Florida.
In addition to the IFICS Data Terminal work with TRW, Harris has a GMD-related contract with The Boeing Company, Anaheim, California.
The BMC2 system subsequently tasked the Harris-developed IFICS Data Terminal to transmit these critical targeting updates to the Interceptor as it approached the ballistic target.
The contract value for Harris could rise to more than $130 million if the company is awarded a proposed option to produce the IFICS as part of the Battle Management Command, Control, and Communications (BMC3) element of GMD.
The new 3,145-square foot building is used as a test bed for the checkout and qualification of Harris-built IFICS hardware prior to shipment and installation at various remote locations supporting GMD.
The Harris-built IFICS Data Terminal was instrumental in successful GMD interceptor tests in July and December of 2001.
Last week's successful performance of the IFICS Data Terminal is yet another milestone in our history of quality performance for the Missile Defense Agency," said Dan Pearson, president, Defense Programs business unit, Harris Government Communications Systems Division (GCSD).
Under a six-year, $105 million contract with Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, Harris is designing, developing and delivering seven IFICS Data Terminals at the Ronald Reagan Test Site in the Marshall Islands, as well as other locations throughout the United States.
Under terms of the IFICS
contract, Harris is designing, developing and testing prototype communications systems being installed at the Kwajalein Missile Range in the Marshall Islands and at Harris facilities in Palm Bay, Florida.
