The agreement between INFE and the Media Financial Management Association (known as MFM) caps a year of changes for the newspaper group.
INFE changed its name from International Newspaper Financial Executives to Interactive and Newsmedia Financial Executives and then, like several other newspaper industry associations, canceled this year's annual meeting.
INFE will close its headquarters in the Washington, D.
INFE President Jeff Hood, the CFO of Seattle-based Pioneer Newspapers, said the decision was the result of a strategic review conducted by the association's board of directors and executive committee to see what changes needed to be made in the changed media environment.
We believe this combination will allow INFE members greater access to ideas and tools via increased contacts and information," Hood said in a message to members.
INFE -- which once stood for International Newspaper Financial Executives and now signifies Interactive & Newsmedia Financial Executives -- had scheduled a joint conference in Atlanta in May with the Media Financial Managers, or MMF, formerly the Broadcast and Cable Financial Management Association.
But INFE President Jeff Hood, CFO of Seattle-based Pioneer Newspapers, said directors decided to drastically scale back involvement as the newspaper industry economy worsened, and a survey of members showed little appetite for the meeting.
This is the first time in the 62-year history of INFE it is effectively scrubbing a convention.
The 2009 annual conference for MFM/BCCA and INFE marks the first time that the events will be co-located.
INFE members may obtain more information and register for the Conference by visiting the INFE web site: http://www.
