We made a further presentation on the topic "Measuring excellence in research (Within the context of a mission-directed emergent university)" at the 5th biennial congress of the International Network of Research Management Societies (inorms), held in Washington DC, USA, in April 2014 (Ivey & Oliver, 2014).
This article was developed from presentations made at the Association of Commonwealth Universities' Conference of Executive Heads, held in Kingston, Jamaica, in November 2012 and at the 5th biennial congress of the International Network of Research Management Societies (inorms), held in Washington DC, USA, from April 10-14,2014.
The membership of INORMS, shown in Table 1, illustrates the global scope of research administration.

The International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS) was established to add more breadth to internationalism.
In future editions of the book, we would hope to see this chapter expanded to include more international organizations such as the South African Research and Innovation Management Association (SARIMA), the Canadian Association of University Research Administrators (CAURA), the European Association of Research Managers and Administrators (EARMA), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), and the International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS).
